Trying to angle the new Alta EX dual sport and I can't realistically have both so up for sale is my 2018 Alta Redshift SM, bought new on Sept 9th and have clocked right at 500 miles on the bike without issue, awesome fun and powerful but the dual sport would suit my needs better. Bike is showroom new, never in rain, never dropped or damaged in any way, pricing at **WITHDRAWN** no trades and no deliveries. Located about 20 miles north of Chattanooga, TN.

I'm curious (and maybe interested). How different are the EX and SM bikes really? If it's just the rims and tires you could buy those in the EX size for much less than the price drop you are willing to accept. Sprockets and handguards too. Is the suspension really that different? Travel? Diameter? Don't see those details on the site. I see the EX has a faster charge time too, wonder why? If I bought the SM, I'd make it into an almost EX, that's what I'd do...

I think maybe you should sweet talk your dealer into a trade in. Telling them they could use it for demos and a "used" deal for a border line customer. Or just enjoy the bike for a few years and then upgrade.

Yeah, I tried that, they have 3 SM's on the floor right now and they're primarily an off road type of dealer (KTM World) so they don't get much floor traffic on super moto bikes. It's looking like I'll be holding onto the SM which is still a super machine, I just sold my Africa Twin DCT so that freed up some jingle, maybe I can add the EX to the stable..
The forks are too different to consider a wheel swap, the mounting point for the caliper is different so I'd have to lace a 21" rim on a SM hub assembly, and the fork is way too stiff for off road use, plus I want the faster charging of the off board charger on the EX. The SM has a 2" lower seat height than the EX, we know what that means off road.

Well the seat height would come up at least an inch with a 21" front, probably more. And I don't know if offboard is an advantage unless you have 240v handy where you ride for a fast midday charge. I like that my FX can charge on and/or offboard and swap packs too, that's flexible, yes it adds a few pounds. I read that the Alta pack can be swapped but 70lbs, two people and a jack, not for me. I do miss the WP suspension on my old KTM.

Yeah, I knew when I typed the seat height thing, someone would be all over it, that's correct, smaller wheels equal lower seat height, fact remains the fork won't work for off road use without serious modification. I know the pros and cons of onboard vs offboard charging, not everyone has the same situation, off board would work better for me.
