I just confirmed with my contact at Sevcon that I can get copies of DVT. I will be able to include these with the purchase of an IXXAT cable from me directly. Pricing should be under $400 for the cable + software.

So is it feasible to buy this controller for my s and essentially turn it into a Sr, kinda like what Burton and doc Bass have done? What kind of extra items would I need to do this? IE DVT and software? Computers aren't my strong suit and I would need step by step instructions, is it even feasible for a computer illiterate? As you can tell I'm very interested

along the same lines as this... is it possible to make a FXS into a FXSR?

I'd need to find out what motor you have, and get files for that motor. If you needed step-by-step that might be extra to walk you through (as it would require my time). The DVT isn't required, but recommended. I don't know what extra is required on the battery side, if it can handle that extra current and if a larger fuse is required. I would post a thread asking what it takes to "upgrade". I don't know if the SR/FXSR have a different motor in them, or what is required outside of the controller upgrade.

Ideally if you had a backup file from someone else who already has a size 6 controller of the same year / make as your bike you could theoretically "upgrade" your bike ... the main issue being the motor on the S isn't the same as the SR so it might run into problem related to heat. My motor was previously ventilated before SR's existed to combat the heat then later swapped for a MY14 SR motor.

You will still need to know how to commission the motor (video can be found on my yt channel) and your basics when using dvt.

So at minimal to do an SR upgrade from an S model you would need an SR motor, the size 6 controller, a backup from your current controller using DVT / dongle to USB, to modify the size 6 controller settings after uploading your size 4 configuration / backup to match motor, to commission new motor, to adjust BMS settings to allow higher amp draw (potentially) ... not sure about any fuse changes required on battery side.

thanks for the input Burton, this is starting to sound more like a trade up situation (i've been eyeing the dsr my dealer has as a demo), then just sell  the s to someone as a reasonable entry into electric motorcycles, this sounds very logical to me, i wonder if the wife can be made to see it that way!

This is officially happening. I've got the min order I need. If anyone wants to hop on, now is the time.

I will likely get a couple extra, so let me know either way.

I've been emailing everyone in the group as I get updates from my suppliers:

The harnesses are being built locally, we're due to confirm pin-out and assembly this weekend. The IXXAT cables arived today. The other items (motors, controllers, chargers, BMS) are on a freight shipment as we speak and are due to arrive late this week.

I can try to ship the IXXAT for you first, since you did not order anything else and it is the only item I've got currently.

Other items depend on when I receive my freight shipment, but should start the first week of January. Those that ordered items that do require programming (DeltaQ and Sevcon) will be done 1 by 1 in the order which they were paid.

Hello,

Does anyone knows where to buy DB9 to ODBII cable compatible with IXXAT USB-to_CAN / Zero?

Thanks,
Giacomo

Hello,

Thanks,

No. The pinout of a standard DB9 to OBDII cable isn't the same DB9 connections on the IXXAT. You'd have to make one.

I'd get this and cut the end off:
https://www.amazon.com/Docooler-Obd-ii-Extension-Diagnostic-Extender/dp/B000SBCHCA

and this:
https://www.amazon.com/Twinkle-Bay-Connector-Terminal-Solder-free/dp/B07437GS66/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?ie=UTF8&qid=1515641065&sr=8-1-spons&keywords=db9+breakout&psc=1

Thanks,

Do you have the ODBII <-> DB9 pin to pin connection table?

I have found this cable already premade but I am not sure if it will work:

ODBII Pin#     <---->      DB9 Pin#
      4                                 6            (chassis ground)
      5                                 3 & 5      (Signal ground)
      6                                 7            CAN BUS High
     14                                2            CAN BUS LOW
     16                                9            Power

Thanks,
Giacomo

You'd have to locate the OBDII pinout or the Zero pinout if it's nonstandard. There's 2 CAN busses on the OBDII connector.

IXXAT:
https://www.ixxat.com/docs/librariesprovider8/default-document-library/products/can-pc-interfaces/usb-to-can-v2-manual-english.pdf?sfvrsn=2
Pin 7 is CANH
Pin 2 is CANL
Pin 3 or 6 is signal ground

OBDII Pinout is an industry standard:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/On-board_diagnostics
Pin 6 is CAN H
Pin 14 is CANL
Pin 5 is Signal Ground

So:
ODBII Pin#     <---->      DB9 Pin#
      5                                 3 OR 6      (Signal ground)
      6                                 7            CAN BUS High
     14                                2            CAN BUS LOW

Don't connect power or chassis ground. Also, your original pinout stated 3 & 5 for signal ground. it's actually pins 3 & 6 according to IXXAT.

There's a lot of  "manufacturers discretion" in those ODBII pin numbers. I believe pin 11 is CAN ground on the Zero. Pin 5 is signal ground for the UART serial on pins 8 and 9. Pin 5 might work for CAN bus too since it is differential.
