Title: Help needed on 2017 Zero throttle wiring...

Evening all,

New to this, we are an all electric dealer based in the UK and have a potential customer who has a disability and is unable to ride with the conventional RHS throttle setup. It has to be on the LHS and we have to move the brake lever also... that one is not a problem. The throttle moving is proving tricky however. I have scoured the internet for a simple LHS hall effect throttle unit, and funnily enough, no luck! So thats left me to modify a standard unit and after delving into things we think its doable, comes down to how exactly we do it. The easiest way by far is to simple move the unit over to the other side, get an opposite wound spring, tinker with the stops and volia! sorted! Downsides is that the throttle would be working in reverse, forward is back and back is forward... so that brings me to the attached wiring diagram and question. Can i simply reverse the hall effect but swapping wires, to turn deceleration into acceleration? As a motorcycle customiser we have encountered and overcome electrical issues before but thought i would put it to some minds on here before i start experimenting and sending zeros backwards through the workshop...

Sorry I can't help you with the electrical aspect but have you looked into a thumb (ATV) style throttle?

i think its just a potentiometer, should just be a matter of reversing the 2 outer wired if it 3 wire connector

yellow > orange
red  > red
orange > yellow

and

white  > black
blue > blue
black > white

here a post about replacing the throttle but early model were simpler only 1 POT not 2

other option is to mount it on the left with the switchgear on the outside , so it be same orientation as the right. may look strange but it be mechanical and electrical the same, but will be difficult to operate other switches.

you should also move this thread to Zero 2013+  to get more response

I investigated the bitron throttle wiring here http://electricmotorcycleforum.com/boards/index.php?topic=6966.msg57299#msg57299 and found it has opposite voltage curves on two wires. Exchanging those wires (brown and brown/red) should reverse the action.

That illustration has some interesting information, clearly it comes from directly from Zero. The knowledge that the BLK/WHT wire to the packs is a throttle enable signal to the MBB is very significant news to me. I know where all of the wires go after making a diagram, but knowing their purpose is much more interesting. Many are obvious, that one was not. How about the other pack wires? Other than power, frame, key switch and CAN bus I have no clue.

I don't know about throttles specifically, but 'hall effect" means change in capacitance, typically a coil and a magnet, and generally a coil sensing distance from a magnet would not have polarity.

Any updates on this very interesting project?

Hall effect uses a magnet to convert rotation angle to a DC voltage just like a potentiometer but with no sliding contact.
