Considering getting a new Alta Redshift EX / MX. since I own a Zero FX with a left hand rear brake, and love it, would like to install such an upgrade for the Redshift as well.
any suggestions for a suitable kit?

If you're a little bit more patient (2 months?), you will be able to purchase a Brembo kit from your Alta dealer.
-
That's great to hear, and the fact that someone from Alta read and pay attention to their customers in this forum is very important.
Another push for me towards buying a Redshift.

Maybe this one would fit?

From a safety point of view, I would recommend not using a combo setup: master cylinder with windows (like the one we use on the Alta) may fail because of the increased pressure in case you use both the foot and the hand levers at the same time.

I bought the "Basic Kit" $174, which is not a combo, for my 2014 Zero SR. Works great, and I've totally removed the foot brake lever. "Pro Kit" $299 is the combo setup, haven't tried that, and your point about safety makes sense I think.

Ciao Togo,
Do you mind sharing some pictures about the cable routing?
Grazie,
Giacomo

I pretty much just followed the electrical, secured with zip-ties, made sure there was slack at both extremes of the turning.
Like I said, this is a Zero SR, not an Alta, but I thought the kit might work for Alta too.

I have a Recluse one on mine. Fookin awesome.

Ah, this one from Rekluse?

Yes! I need to figure out how to put it on my gas bikes too...

The Rekluse left hand rear brake works great on the Redshift EX.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180310/1d6556845c4026f0bfbad20d5ef7ad8a.jpg)

That's fantastic! Looks like it's a good fit from what I can see. I thought about doing one for my SM but I think it would be better for off road, if and when I can angle the EX or MX/MXR to add the stable, I'd surely do the hand brake mod. Great job!
-
Thanks. Rekluse offer this kit specifically for the Alta. Fits very well.
Agree about how useful it is for off road. Not sure if its worth it for on road users.

What are the main differences? Does the Alta kit retain the footbrake as well?
Have a photo to upload?
Thanks.

Where did you find the Alta kit? I don't see a area on the Alta web site for accessories.
thanks

It is not available for sale just yet. Please bear with us another few weeks.
Butch is a "family friend" so we hooked him up as part of our testing program.
And it does not retain the pedal.

Thanks for the quick response I appreciate it

Any updates here? JD

Alta, any idea when your kit will be available? Looking to do something on my EX and if your kit is coming out soon I will wait to see what you offer.

Alta released their LHRB kit, and I beleive it can be ordered through your dealer.

Correct.

We have some LHRB kits from Alta on order that should be ready to ship ASAP. We also stock the LHRB kit from Rekluse.

Alta Motor's official online store has the left-hand rear-brake lever, as well as a few other goodies. Early-adopter Redshift owners are getting emails from Marc at Alta with a $500 coupon code to shop in the store. I just ordered a LHRB lever, a skidplate, and a quick-release seat screw... and paid $42 total after applying the coupon code.
I guess the $500 is consolation for purchasing a Redshift in the first year, before the price dropped $2,000-$4,500 in the second year.
-
Could you please post a link to that Alta store?

The Rekluse left hand rear brake works great on the Redshift EX.
So I picked up the left hand brake kit from alta. I am disappointed that it eliminates the rear footbrake entirely and am looking at brake line options to hook the LHRB up in series.
Did you do anything about the sight glass on the foot brake master cylinder? Did you simply use a double banjo on the foot brake master? I have seen online some claim that rekluse sell some type of adapter or new master cylinder cover for the foot brake but those posts are several years old by now and I can't find anything like that available online.
In any case a picture of your footbrake master setup and anything info on what you did to keep the sight glass from blowing out on the footbrake master would be very helpful.
TIA

We have figured out all the parts here:
https://altaownersforum.com/threads/the-alta-factory-lhrb.41/
The Rekluse part is $150, and its bolt is too small. You should order from Clake, theirs is under $50 delivered.
We are figuring out the hose as well. I may have an off-the-shelf solution in a week or so.

I installed a cable kit on my 2019, which routes to the foot pedal and mounts on the rear Master cylinder. Very clean installation, retains the foot brake, and causes no pressure problems given that it is a simple CABLE and does not change the factory setup. I like it a lot! I love a left hand brake as I change all of my bicycles to "moto style" with the right brake lever operating the front brake. Very nice, simple, solution.
Photo is of me going over Cinnamon Pass in Colorado at nearly 13K feet. No re-jetting required :)
