Title: Electric Moto - what happened?!
Post by: xring on July 05, 2008, 09:17:50 PM
I've been eagerly searching for updated information about the Electric Moto Blade... but can find hardly anything about it.  Even the Electric Moto home website at http://www.electricmoto.com  (http://www.electricmoto.com) is now a dead link.

Does anyone have info on what happened?
Is Electric Moto is in business, but under a different name?
Where can I find either the Blade or the Blade XT?

Thanks in advance!

Been doing some digging since you posted this.  Might be able to get some information from thier UK distributor...

http://www.goblade.co.uk

Let me know if you find anything.  Seems strange they would go under after a press release like this...

The company is still in business and planning to ship bikes.  The website issue relates to the Investment Management side of the business  wanting to do their own more 'investor freindly' site I believe.  Not sure how shutting the site down benefits that but thats what we're led to believe.  We have to wait and see what they come up with.

The bike is still being developed and we are very pleased with recent changes to the energy system and frame design.

Here is an update...

ASHLAND, Ore., July 22, 2008 (PRIME NEWSWIRE)
...
The company has recently delivered the first shipment of Blade XT demonstration motorcycles to its authorized European distributors which include: GoBlade (UK) and Freeride (France). Management believes that its historical focus on building consumer awareness in Europe coupled with the recent rise in demand for electric-powered vehicles in the region have created an extremely favorable business environment for the company. Electric Moto Corp. first unveiled aggressive development plans for the 'Blade' at the 2006 International Motorcycle Show in Milan.

I received the new Blade XT on Dec 2007, and was very happy when it arrived. It went all down hill from there. After a short period I asked for a full refund due to Poor performance and problems with bike. It took almost 8 months to receive the refund money due to the company had no funds. Happy it is all over now. Looking the Quantya, or may wait till KTM comes out with thier electric production bike in two years.

Here are a couple of points about the Blade XT..........................

The good points or the bike are......
1. Great Controller (Alltrax 4844)
2. Good motor (PMG132)
3. Unreal Suspension
4. Better Brakes

Some of the bad points
1. Poor battery set (Thundersky 40 ah) Puts out only 46v @ 120amps cont. This equals to 5.5kw of power. Not the 13kw advertised. Voltage drops bellow 40v during acceleration.
2. Poor quality in the plastic finish
3. Plastic mounts too thin of material
4. Front knob MX tires used for the rear tire.
5. Front and rear hubs not machined correctly causing wobble at sprocket.
6. No return spring installed at the foot pegs.
7. Kick stand mounting wears through you riding boots after short ride due to sharp edges
8. Poor wiring. (wires were wrapped with electrical tape, and or hanging loose etc)
9. Batteries drain if they stay plugged into the controller.
10. No BMS in the charging of the Lithium batteries
11. More attention to detail is needed

This list goes on.

Last I have heard Electricmoto is in the works of installing a better battery pack and repairing all the problems of the earlier Blade XT.

If anyone has questions or wants pictures of the Blade XT let me know on this post.

Thanks a lot for posting your experiences with the Blade.  Good to hear they are working out the bugs.  That is cool they gave you your money back.

Was yours a first run of the bike?

I would love to see pics.  Please post them up!

What kind of riding did you do with it?  Trails, track?  How many miles/hours did you get in on the bike?

The Beta testing is over on the Blade XT and the bike was sent back to Ashland.........................all the money was refunded and the project was scapped.
