I am worried it might get to hot if I use it with the box closed (with normal outside temps in the 80's). I am starting to use my bike for my commute and would like to have a weatherproof charging solution. I have the QuiQ for home use. I have a dual cord J1771 adapter. I hate to tie up the level 2 station at work for the 6 hours it takes to top off with the internal charger only.

Picture of the charging station? I'm sure we can come up with some creative parking and a laminated note so you can continue slow charging while a cager fast charges in the same spot?

Newington is quite on the Northern side so outside of summers you should be good I think. The QuiQ charger is only 1KW so it shouldn't produce that much heat. Best thing to do is give it a charge in the top case on a hot day and check the temperature regularly.
Even in the summer with the top closed a few convection slots could wick away enough hot air.

I'd like to keep the top-case weather tight, but realize that is probably not in the stars if I want to run the QuiQ in there. Perhaps I'll pick up another top-case and have one to set up for ventilated charging and one for keeping stuff dry. It took a bit over 6 hours to top off from 30% this morning (I work a 9 hour day min, so that's not a problem, just want to get out of the space faster). I guess it's time to experiment...

Nope, it's an outdoor level-2 station (J1771).

I've run two quiqs in the top case. Normally I leave it open a bit. When closed, In about an hour, they are hot, but not to their thermal cutback. I'm not comfortable running them fully enclosed like that regularly, but maybe just one isn't as bad?

Reading about the QuiQ units, it looks like they are weather tight anyway. Perhaps I can just hook it up to a chain so it does not walk away... I have a J1771 adapter that splits to two standard plugs, one for the bikes built in and one for the QuiQ.
Looks like my building is putting in a set of standard AC outlets anyway (for me), I don't care about just using the built in charger as long as I am not tieing up a spot another car or bike for the day.
