Title: The most pleasant encounter
Post by: M@2015DS on April 07, 2017, 10:05:04 AM
So I am riding to work. Seemed like any other day.

Going north on the 405 in west LA. Traffic is bumper to bumper like usual and I am splitting between the passing lane and carpool lane.

I pass by a bike waiting to get in from the passing lane. I look back and like usual the bike has gotten in and is catching up to me. I ride pretty mellow so this is no surprise.

I get over so my fellow motorcycle rider can pass. Then it happens.

The bike slows down when beside me and I look over. It is a black ZERO S! I look up and...

The rider is a woman! How awesome! It is rare that I see another Zero but a woman riding a Zero? That was like seeing a unicorn!

She smiled and waved. I waved back. Maybe it was the situation but her face was so pretty and she looked so happy to see another Zero rider as well.

And then she rode on. I could not get the smile off my face.

I already think women that ride are awesome. But riding a Zero? Over the top.

Maybe I will get the opportunity to see her again.

Or perhaps it was just my imagination running wild.

I saw a rider on a Zero S and he completely ignored me :(

I've had people yell at me to talk when I'm riding... Just because you are on a bike doesn't mean you don't have to be somewhere,  Pronto!

Likely they just needed to keep going.

Keep a card with your number on it handy. If you're lucky enough to see that lady on the Zero again, point to her bike, then to yours, hand her the card and hope she calls or send you a text. You might get to meet for a coffee or something. Who knows? Those kind of things don't happen often.  I'm glad it made you're day at least.

My wife used to ride a long time ago. She got the license before me. After hundred years of not riding (except bicycle), I would like her to try the Zero, but humm, she seems not enthousiast at it. Wait & see...

PinkyRacer is LA - I think she has an "FX".  But she would know for sure.

@Seeth, I've also had a LOT of riders pull up and want to chat, some more pushy about helping themselves to my time than others.

I always try and do my part if I can spare a few minutes though, fly the electric flag.

Surprising how many people pick up that it's an electric straight away, without knowing Zero exists

Me too, people asking "oh, it's electric?". Yes, and guess which is the next question... Always the same!

How far does it go on a charge? ;-)

I've had people ask me if it's a hybrid, or after saying it's electric they ask how many cc's the engine has.

I went up to the Vetter challenge in 2014, and my brother went with me to take the opportunity to ride around on our old stomping grounds, the Santa Cruz mountains. Almost literally every single time we stopped somewhere, someone asked about my bike and I got to tell the story about this wonderful Santa Cruz-based company. In the three years that I've been riding in San Diego, however, I've literally had ONE person spontaneously ask me about it, and that was a bicyclist who was just behind me as we waited for a light to turn green. I've gone to EV events, I've gone to bike night at the El Cajon "hot summer nights" car show, and the bike gets very little interest of any kind even in a vehicle-focused environment. Oh, I take it back....the guy at my local 7-11 asked me how I liked my new 250 the first time I pulled in on it.

I'm a little embarrassed how poorly my hometown represents.

Are you sure that's a good idea? If you get her on a Zero it sounds like M@2015DS will be trying to chat her up. ;-)

The Pacific Northwest, especially around Portland, is rife with electric love.

...that should be the name of a band.
