I am making an electric quad and am considering belt drive instead of chain. I was thinking of using parts off of Zero motorcycles as the motor I have is from an old Zero. Its a perm 132. Does anyone know the diameter of a rear zero pulley? And the year plz so I can order. Also does anyone know whether Zero ever made a front belt pulley that works with a 3/4" shaft/this motor? Also if anyone knows the belt specs that would be great bc I need shorter.
Can anyone comment on how often the belt would need to be replaced as the swingarm, wheel and shock all must be removed to change the belt. Whereas a chain can just remove a link... but belt would be cooler!

The Zeros are designed with the motor shaft and swingarm pivot on the same axis so belt tension is constant throughout suspension travel. Anything else would require an elaborate tensioning system. The pulley is a large diameter (14" or so?) and would be perilously close to the ground with quad sized tires. The inside bolt pattern most likely won't fit any hub for anything else. Rocks, sand, sticks, read off road will damage the belt. Jumping or sliding will overload the belt and it will snap. A chain will probably be a much better option for what you're trying to do.

Motor will be mounted to swingarm. The pulley looks more like 12" would be great to clarify..

Sky if your putting it on a quad and going off road you want a chain not a belt. Zero offers a chain kit for the FX (most dirt bike version) because rocks and sticks and mud will over tighten the belt and tear off parts or snap it in half. It will be easier to replace too.

I snapped my belt 5 miles into my first offroad ride on my new-to-me 2015 FX. I have the chain kit and am trying to install it. I managed to get the front pulley retainer bolt out (that was a bitch) but the damned pulley still won't slide off of the shaft. I removed the little allen screw that keeps it in place, as well. Do I need a special puller to get it off or do I have to open up the other side of the motor to access something? It would be nice if the kit came with instructions. I found links in this forum to instructions, but the files are no longer present. Ugh...

It's been asked that dealer-only install documents are not for general public consumption because I guess there's not a lot of resources to both write them and vett them against any potential legal liability for having provided them.
