Title: 2011 XU Battery Charge Cable
Post by: danvollans on February 05, 2017, 03:52:00 AM
I own a 2011 Zero XU Motorcyele, and I absolutely love it.  Unfortunately there is one flaw where the charging cable doesn't have a secure location for storage.  Once in a while it can fall out and rub the tire.  This happened to me today, and the cable has been ruined.  I'm not sure if this cable disconnects, or how it can be replaced.  I am unable to safely charge this Motorcyle anymore because of the damage to the cable.  Anyone have any ideas on where I can get replacement parts for this cable, or if it is replaceable at all?

I would try contacting Hollywood Electrics to see what they recommend or can make for you.

This year seems to be no longer regularly supported so you might need a professional to open the case to attach a new cable.

The conductors aren't damaged or at risk of touching each other. If it was mine I'd just patch it up. Can you get any heat shrink tubing over the end or is the connector too big?

It appears that it's only rubbed through the ground wire (green wire) coat it in liquid electric tape and wrap or cover the rest in kevlar hose wrap or split loom

For anyone who was curious as to the resolution of this, the Battery Charger and BMS system was unfortunately fried as there appears to be a short somewhere in the electrical components of it.  It was likely because of a connection of the cables for even a fraction of a second when the cable hit the tire.  Fortunately an authorized Zero dealer was able to purchase the Battery Charger for $388 and it looks like it's really easy to install (4-6 nuts and some cable snaking).

That is a really straightforward resolution, considering. Glad to hear it.

Congrats, could you tell me which Zero Dealer that was by chance?
