In addition to relaying the story of Alta's first racing outing, this story also says the RedShift will start shipping early 2016.

Well, it is about time. By now their bikes should be pretty well developed. :)

I received an email saying the first production unit was shipped last week to a Cali dealer (BMW) I've been on the waiting list for years.... Can't wait for the SM !

Or pretty well outdated. How long has the concept bike been on display while the company was figuring out production?

Here's an excerpt from the Terms and Conditions at the Alta site, as of this morning:
"Alta Motors Redshift bikes are sold and delivered only through reputable motorcycle dealerships. Delivery against a deposit is predicated upon Alta Motors signing a dealership agreement with a licensed dealership in your area. You can aid in this process by identifying your favorite dealership for us, and by notifying the dealership directly that you have placed a deposit on a Redshift. In the event that we cannot find a suitable dealership in your area, we will refund your deposit in full.
When a dealer in your area is identified and signed into the Alta Motors network, you will receive priority on the unit of your selection shipped to your area. If there are other depositors in your area, priority will be based on the order in which deposits were received."
As I read this, it basically states 'no local dealer, no bike' - and the Alta site lists only one "dealer", the Alta factory in San Francisco.

That doesn't sound like the most promising business plan. ???

+1 ! Seems like the opposite of the Tesla sales model.

OK, so at least one redshift has been delivered. When are more going to be delivered? I am keenly interested in a "real world" review from somebody not in the business.
I already started selling off the gassers...

I'm in purge mode too, so the eSM can be in the stable

Talked to one of the founders at length on the phone last week. I was surprised to talk to him and even more surprised he was willing to chat.
He said to expect Oregon and Washington to be right on the heels of CA, in the 2016 May timeframe for the MX and 2016 July timeframe for the SM.. They apparently have dealers in the PNW they have not yet announced. In fact, they are pretty hush-hush considering they are now delivering.
-
Awesome update, thank you! I hope to get a SM to the Midwest maybe by fall, fingers crossed....
-
Not likely to get a test ride here in the UK then ?
-
Never seen it at Motorcycle Live, or any of the other big UK shows.
Generally if a bike is not at one of them, as a rule, it's not going to be seen on these shores anytime soon.
You are probably better off looking at a KTM Freeride-E for that sort of bike in the UK.
-
Have you tried a Zero FX or FXS? Available in the UK and probably cheaper that Alta too now they're covered by the £1500 grant.

Alta MX and SM in stock (at least for now) at GP Motorcycles in San Diego:
Here's the MX (http://gpmotorcycles.com/bikes/inventory_Detail.php?id=1610)
9 Alta dealers now.

Hey Everyone,
I just wanted to let you know that we have MX models available in Colorado. If anyone would like to see one in person feel free to stop by the shop. We are also putting together a demo list for people that are interested in getting either the MX or SM so feel free to contact us to get on the list.
