Title: No more Facebook page?
Post by: ultrarnr on May 24, 2015, 10:12:04 PM
While it could be a simple web site problem that explains the fact that the Mission Facebook page in down you really have to wonder. Since last September the only activity on the Mission Facebook page has been the promise of a new and exciting update coming which was posted on 5 February. Nothing since.

Funny.  I just put a story together on that...  should go live on Tuesday I reckon, but yeah.  Nothing from Mark at all, since February.

Maybe no more Mission Motors.   ::)

A friend texted me today to say that they had closed down.  I asked how he knew and he said that he had walked by it earlier today.  If I'd have asked him earlier I was up there and I could have driven by and verified/posted pics.  Apparently they closed on April 24th.  I have to go back through the city tomorrow - I'll try to take a picture and post it then... :(

Redacted - apparently my friend was referring to the motorcycle dealer in Daly City, not the Mission Motors headquarters in SF.

Just don't get "Mission Motors" confused with "Mission Motorcycles" (the SF Zero dealer) in Daly City, who closed their doors around that time and sold their building and property The Dollar Store.   :o

Mission Motors, the dealer, closed about a month before April 24.  I believe it was early March.

Interesting coincidence then.  My friend lives down the block from the dealer in Daly City and so he may have been referring to that company.  That makes more sense now as I was wondering why he would have been concerned with the electric motorcycle company (other than the fact that he knows that I drive "one of those", he's not really connected to either motorcycle riding or electric motorcycles either).

But, and here is the coincidence...

His mention prompted me to stop by the actual Mission Motors offices in SF today on my way to a MD party and as luck would have it there was someone locking the door as I drove up (on Memorial Day no less).  He's a contractor who worked with them when they were in business, but is now tasked with repainting the interior for the new tenants.  The offices are clearly vacant with lots of scaffolding visible through the front windows and lots of plastic sheeting taped over the second story windows (from the inside).  The guy said that he own a couple of electric bikes (I didn't recognize the models he mentioned and it sounded like he came from the early DIY beginnings of the electric motorcycle movement).  We commiserated a bit on the demise of Mission and what they were offering compared to the rest of the field and how it will not go anywhere now (other than what may appear in the Livewire).  He confirmed that Mission Motors, the drive-train version of the company, and Mission Motorcycles, the electric motorcycle division, are both gone now.  Apparently they did sell off their motor assets to H-D for the Livewire before they went under.

As I was driving away I realized that I should have mentioned this site to him and asked him to post what he knew, but for now you'll have to rely on my admittedly faulty memory for details (his name and the names of the motorcycles he's ridden/owned went in one of my ears and out the other), but that's the gist of it.

I confirmed with my friend that he was referring to the dealer down the block from him in Daly City and *not* the electric motorcycle manufacturer in his text.

I noticed that Ted referred to my report on his story - you should probably redact that as I spoke in error.  My apologies.

My run-in yesterday with the guy who was locking their door is more direct evidence that they've gone, but it is unconfirmed how much of what he told me is official and how much may be just a contractor wanting to appear "in the know" to a random guy on the street.  I'm a very poor judge of when someone is talking over their head so if someone with a better sense of reading people wants to drop by there during the day and see if he's working and chat him up (Shiny?  Richard230?), we may get a better sense/confirmation of what is happening...(wishing I'd remembered his name)

Thanks for the clarification, though not much in the Mission story is clear at all...  I sincerely hope some day we'll find out what happened, but I have my suspicions.

I did refer to this thread, and I think I'll keep that reference, since your talk with the contractor, and really this is the first time I've heard about someone actually visiting the site.  The comment he made about Mission selling out to HD was the part where I was thinking he was a little sketchy - no idea how a contractor would be privvy to that kind of information.

I will probably go in and make a note on the post though...  thanks for the clarification.

Looks like Mission Motorcycles is dead and they took my deposit with them.

lolachampcar did the right thing by asking for his deposit back in December. I asked for my deposit back a month ago and then again a week ago. They haven't responded.

Their Facebook page is gone.

According flar their office is gone.

We haven't heard anything from Mark Seeger since his Facebook post about some really big news (which at this time I have to guess is really big bad news).

On the flip side, their website is still up and still actively taking reservations... Any takers?

That's exactly the reason that I never pay any deposit for any buy. My dealer asked me for a deposit for my 2015 Zero DS and accepted my refusal to pay a deposit.
I bought a KTM a few years ago and the company that sold me the KTM got bankrupt. I do not see any reason for a deposit.

I just spoke with someone who works in the neighborhood.  Closed.  Ex-employess working at her place as well.
