Title: 2011 Zero S brake pad replacement
Post by: jateureka on January 21, 2015, 05:03:13 PM
The bike I just bought has done less than 13,000km and has no brake pads left!!!
Worn down to the backing metal on the rear brake and only 1mm left on the leading edge on the front brake.

Anybody replaced their brake pads yet or know of any aftermarket brake pads that fit?

Anybody got the workshop instructions or can tell me what the torque settings are for the brake calliper mounting bolts and pad retaining screws?

I have removed the pads and can see that they are sintered material. I compared the size of the pads to some catalogues and found the following aftermarket pads for the HB Performance calliper models as fitted to the 2011 Zero S:

REAR brake pads:
EBC SFA083HH
Metal Gear 30-067-S http://metalgear.com.au/mgear-brake-pads-sintered-p-5625.html (http://metalgear.com.au/mgear-brake-pads-sintered-p-5625.html)
GOLDfren 047AD(http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/Njg3WDgwMA==/z/UywAAOxyc2pTX74t/$_57.GIF)

FRONT brake pads:
EBC SFA264HH
Metal Gear 30-160-S http://metalgear.com.au/searchByProduct.php?keywords=30-160&x=0&y=0 (http://metalgear.com.au/searchByProduct.php?keywords=30-160&x=0&y=0)

EDIT
torque specification for the brake calliper bolts is detailed on page 5-2 of the Owner's manual as 20Nm with new Loctite blue applied.

Bolts use an M6 Allen key

Pad retaining pins on the front caliper use an M5 Allen key

Galfer has a good reputation with brakes.

Thanks for that, but they don't give the Galfer part number for the Zero, the number they list there is for the brake pad compound for general street use.
The actual Galfer part numbers are FD094 rear, FD188 front
Ferodo part numbers FDB313 rear and FDB2190 front

I did find an ebay listing with Zero OEM pads, the part numbers were 25-0328601 for the rears.

The last post was two and a half years ago. Those links are no good any more.
I sent a few emails to Zero, asking about brake pads, but got no reply. Finally I bought some online from aliexpress, specifically

They're the same brake pads used on 2002-2004 Suzuki RM 85cc. The pads arrived at my house in 10 days and they fit perfectly. Total cost (including shipping) = $12.88

These pads are also the same used on Suzuki Burgman 125 (front disc).
