Title: What exactly is going on at Mission Electric (re: motorcycles)
Post by: teddillard on November 06, 2014, 08:06:29 PM
I just put this post together: http://insideevs.com/thoughts-mission-r-rs-op-ed/ (http://insideevs.com/thoughts-mission-r-rs-op-ed/)

I'd love to hear some response.  I'm losing faith in ever seeing a production Mission by the day...  :(

Mission Motorcycles and its spin-offs is starting to sound more and more like the Corbin Sparrow legal wars of 10 years ago.  You divide the companies up and then start stepping on each other toes and egos, leading to legal fights in court that take years and lots of money to resolve.  I am not saying that is what is going on with Mission, but it doesn't take much to go from a friendly split into two companies to a fight over the assets.  Just ask any couple who has split up and then divorced.

Hopefully, this will not happen to Mission, but they still have a long way to go before producing and marketing a production electric motorcycle and then selling it at a price that is affordable to someone besides Jay Leno.

Problem is, that in this fast moving sector of bike technology, the Mission R is going to quickly become an also ran.
Had it released last year, it would have been ground breaking
Had it released this summer, it would have been an excellent bike, and bleeding edge tech
If it releases next year, its competing with the Ego and its current tech.
Year after next...? its obsolete.

And then there is its price.  When you start paying $30K and up for a motorcycle, you really limit your market and start running up against all sorts of very nice custom-built vehicles.  The number of customers for products like that is very limited - Tesla being an exception, but then they really have no competition in the marketplace and a car is much more useful to the average consumer than is a motorcycle.

I just got part of my deposit back.  I will consider myself lucky.
