Title: KTM Freeride E Videos from Erzberg
Post by: skadamo on March 03, 2013, 12:32:10 AM
Looks like KTM is making some good progress with the Freeride E. Power looks good, throttle control seems to be pretty dialed. Still "Coming Soon" tho...

I really expected the Europeans to come out of the EV box a lot faster than they are. It seems to me that Europe is the perfect market for electric motorcycles.  The distances between typical destinations are shorter than in the U.S. and most people and governments are a lot more "green" than here.  I am mystified why the Euro manufacturers seem to be dragging their heels when it comes to marketing electric motorcycles.  And I could say the same about Japan.  Both of these markets have very high gas prices, most speed limits tend to be lower and people live a lot closer together and don't have gas fumes between the ears.  I can only surmise that they are not risk takers and are afraid to enter the market for fear that they won't sell enough bikes to pay back their research and development costs.   ???

My guess is they feel that when the time comes they can move quickly to get their prototypes into the established dealer network and end up ahead of Zero.

For developing a whole new drive platform 4-6 years may be moving fast for a major OEM?
