Title: Brammo owned by Polaris?
Post by: Lipo423 on June 28, 2012, 11:56:00 PM
Did you guys know it?
That maybe the reason why there have been some delays...

Nope.
They are not "owned by Polaris."
Polaris has invested in Brammo, but, as far as I know, are not even close to being majority investors.

Also, not sure why you posted this on the Zero subforum.  This forum has a subforum dedicated to Brammo.  (http://electricmotorcycleforum.com/boards/index.php?board=7.0)

I posted it here as a general question to the people I know (I'm not involved in the Brammo one)as this is not anything technically-related to the Brammo bikes

Is there any conflict/restriction to do so?

"conflict/restriction"

Restriction: no, there are no hard and fast rules about which subforum you post on here.  It's a lot easier to keep things organized if you keep Zero-related posts to the Zero subforum, and Brammo-related posts on the Brammo subforum.  To say that this post is not "technically-related to the Brammo bikes" is a real stretch to me.

Conflict: I don't think there's a conflict, unless you're an employee or agent of Zero motorcycles.  If that were the case, you might want to think about what your motivation was to post something that was not true on this forum.

For instance, even though I am not an employee or agent of Brammo, I am obviously a fan, and I do have a certain amount of connection with the company that I divulge in the interest of transparency.  If I were to post something on the Brammo Owners Forum with the title, "Zero Owned by California?" (which is not true, but passes the 'red-face' test because the state has invested in the company and I ended the post title with a question mark, thus showing my uncertainty in the declaration), my motivation would be questioned and rightly so.

I know that you are a valued member of this forum and that you have answered many questions from Zero owners and have a level of knowledge about batteries that is to be admired.  Along with Skadamo, the head-honcho here, I help administer the forum.  In that role, I feel the need to make sure that the posts (and their titles) meet a level of integrity that will keep the forum as a valuable source of information for all the members here and will continue its value as time goes by.  That's my motivation.  And yes, part of my motivation was to clarify the misconception about Brammo and Polaris.  Polaris did its due diligence and invested in Brammo.  We should all do our due diligence before investing our time in writing posts and their titles.

My memory is not too good at my age, but I have this feeling that I read an announcement couple of years ago stating that an officer of the Polaris corporation was appointed to the Zero board of directors.  If that was the case, it is likely that Polaris has also invested in the company.

That was in May 2011 - there was an article about it in Asphalt & Rubber that was filled with all kinds of speculation.  The Polaris guy was Mark Blackwell.  By the end of the year, as I recall, his name no longer appeared on the list of directors at Zero.  Not sure that it's fair to equate the naming of a Polaris employee to a board of directors (with no further evidence of investment by Polaris), with Polaris' purchase of Series B stock in Brammo, but I'm no expert.

Had to check the stats.  I should know better by now then to double check you on anything related to numbers.  Yep, you can call me quick draw McGraw.  :) Well, that's what Ms.Brammofan calls me.  Or is it Hairtrigger Harry?  :-\

Thanks for the clarification on the forum, and no, I'm neither a Zero nor a Brammo employee. I just raised a question based in available data...which as you stated turned out to be minor stake, not full ownership.
